Edson Oda was born in São Paulo, Brazil.

He worked as an Advertising Copywriter from 2002 to 2012 at DDB BRAZIL - Sao Paulo, with global projects in WIEDEN+KENNEDY LONDON and DDB MADRID.
As copywriter, Edson won awards in Cannes Advertising Festival, CLIO, One Show, New York Festival, Art Directors Club among others.

In 2012 he was nominated for a LATIN GRAMMY (Best Music Video) for an independent Music video (Tempos de Maracuja) that he directed, wrote, financed and produced.

Also in 2012, his homemade short film (The Writer) was picked by Quentin Tarantino as the best short of the competition “Django Unchained Emerging Artist Contest”.

Edson’s most recent animation short film, Malaria (2013)- written, directed and co-produced by him, won the Seattle International Film Festival (Special Jury Award); Milano International Film Festival (Best Short Animation), Disposable Film Festival (Best Film of the festival). It was also selected as a Vimeo Staff Favorites of 2013 and selected in more than 25 festivals around the world.

Edson lives in Los Angeles and is currently doing his Master in Fine Arts in Film and Television Production at University of Southern California focused on Writing and Directing.
He loves making short films, music videos, and is working & studying intensely in order to direct his first feature film.
